GEM is the Project Coordinator of the European Project NANOMICRO INTEGRATION IN MICROMANUFACTURING, starting in January 2010 and finishing in December 2013.
The project, with a European Commission contribution of 3,900,000 euros for a total budget of 5,274,000 euros, will develop a manufacturing system for microparts (1 – 3mm size) of arbitrary geometry at industrial scale, with an accuracy goal of 5microns. The manufacturing of the part is made layer by layer by sintering of metallic / ceramic nanopowders. For the powder heating two independent techniques are used: laser and microwaves. The final machine will produce parts for miniaturization of optical sensors and medical inhalers, among other applications.
